Pro-autism BS by Doug will not go unchecked

Actually READ this, Doug. It comes from the neurologists that apparently have been spared your disdain. It explains why the above post is completely off-base.

"This study suggests that the autistic syndromes, like the mental retardation syndromes, begin prior to birth in the overwhelming number of cases. It adds one more piece of evidence that autism is a member of the family of neurodevelopmental syndromes with maturational disturbances and may be the behavioral stepsister of the mental retardation syndromes."

The study she is referring to is Nelson et al. (2001):

Nelson KB, Grether JK, Croen LA, Dambrosia JM, Dickens BF, Jelliffe LL, Hansen RL, Phillips TM (2001) Neuropeptides and neurotrophins in neonatal blood of children with autism or mental retardation. Annals of Neurology 49:597- 606.

Coleman, Mary. Neurology of Autism.Cary, NC, USA: Oxford University Press, Incorporated, 2005. p 4.

Tell me. are these researchers pro-autism then? You don't get to say in some posts you acknowledge the genetics of autism and then spend the rest of the time raging over vaccines and not get called on it. Especially when you obviously have not read the key literature that might give you an actual idea of what is really known by the autism experts.

Doug's incredibly offensive frakking post: "It's allowing autism it grow unchecked by the biggest increase in any disease mankind has ever seen. Autism has more cases than our top leading diseases combined. By not addressing the problem, you are for the increase in autism and labeled by me as pro-autism. If your for vaccines, your labeled pro-vaccine. If your for abortions, your labeled pro-choice. It's generalizing on the lowest form. But necessary to keep up with the deniers."

Line by line: Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. It is not growing unchecked. It is being better recognized. It is being "diluted" to allow milder cases. People once only identified as MR are being recognzied as also having autism. There appears to be some proportion, though, that is not accounted for by these factors.
As to autism having "more cases than our top leading diseases combined": completely inaccurate. Got me on that? Autism has 300,000 children in the US, about 1.5 million total. Diabetes ALONE has a prevalence of 23.6 million people -- 7.8 percent of the population (http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/statistics/#allages).
You have decided that vaccines are to blame for all cases? And therefore anyone crying fowl on that "theory" are wrong and therefore want an increase? And then add the label of deniers. Last straw.
You are an unmitigated ass.
